Investigators return B.C. taser video

November 8, 2007

VANCOUVER — A video that apparently shows a Polish immigrant being hit by a jolt from an RCMP stun gun has now been returned to the man who captured the incident.

Integrated Homicide Investigation Team spokesman Corporal Dale Carr confirms the video has been returned to Paul Pritchard.

The Victoria resident launched court action for the return of his property when police indicated it could be years before it would be handed back.

Mr. Pritchard has said he wants to release the video so the public can see what happened early on the morning of Oct. 14 when an agitated Robert Dziekanski was zapped by two 50,000-volt charges from a taser fired by an RCMP officer.

Mr. Dziekanski collapsed moments later and died within minutes.

The 40-year-old would-be immigrant, who spoke no English, had become distraught after spending more than 10 hours stranded at Vancouver International Airport following his lengthy trip from Poland.
