PPAO Advocating for a Canadian Mental Health Commission
Mental Health Commission of Canada launched
The Mental Health Commission of Canada was launched by Prime Minister Stephen Harper in August, 2007, with the announcement of the final selection of its Board of Directors. The creation of the Mental Health Commission of Canada was a key recommendation of a Standing Senate Committee report on mental health, mental illness and addiction in Canada. Former Senator and co-author of that report, Michael Kirby, is the new Commission Chair.
In October 2007 the Commission held a stakeholder consultation session in Toronto, in which the PPAO participated. You can read our submission to Mr. Kirby and the Commission by clicking one of these links:

PPAO Advocating for a Canadian Mental Health Commission: History
In its final report on mental health, mental illness and addiction in Canada, Out of the Shadows at Last, the Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology recommended the creation of a Canadian Mental Health Commission. The PPAO is advocating for the establishment of the Commission, the Knowledge Exchange Centre and a national strategy for mental health, mental illness and addictions.
