Mental illness clients and their right to vote
On January 23, many of us will exercise our democratic right to vote and take it for granted. Many Canadians, however, have only been given the right to vote in the last couple of decades.
In 1993, Royal Assent was finally given to Bill C-114, removing the electoral disqualification for persons limited as a result of "mental disease." As an exercise of our social responsibility and democratic entitlement, voting is of critical importance to many of us. This is no less the case for those who have a mental illness.
